The Visionary Behind NAF

Our Founder: Bharat Ratna Shri C. Subramaniam

The Architect of India’s Green Revolution

National Agro Foundation was founded in 2000 by Bharat Ratna Shri C. Subramaniam: statesman, freedom fighter, and the visionary widely recognized as the Architect of India’s Green Revolution. Honoured with India’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, he also received the Y.B. Chavan Award for National Integration, the U Thant Peace Award, and the Borlaug Award in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the nation.

A member of the Constituent Assembly, Shri Subramaniam played an important role in shaping independent India. During a distinguished public career spanning over four decades, he held several key ministerial portfolios, including Food and Agriculture, where he led the transformation of India from a food-deficient nation to one that achieved self-sufficiency through the Green Revolution.

The Birth of National Agro Foundation

On the occasion of his 90th birthday, Shri C. Subramaniam founded the National Agro Foundation to carry forward his lifelong vision of a prosperous rural India. Building on the Green Revolution’s “Seed to Grain” approach, he envisioned NAF as a catalyst for a holistic “Soil to Market” model of rural development, integrating sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, and livelihood enhancement for small and marginal farmers.
