Rejuvenation of Irrigation Tank (RoMI): Akka Thangai Lake Restoration

Anchetty, Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu

Rejuvenation of Irrigation Tank (RoMI): Akka Thangai Lake Restoration is an ongoing project run by National Agro Foundation (NAF) in partnership with Titan Company in Anchetty, Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu. Under NAF's Watershed Division, its key interventions include jungle clearance, earthwork excavation, sunken pits; and renovation of sluice and repair of surplus weir. It is one of 14 ongoing Watershed Division projects.

About this project

Initiated to restore traditional water harvesting structures and enhance local water security, the project focuses on the scientific rejuvenation of select irrigation tanks that have suffered extensive siltation and structural degradation over time. These tanks are critical lifelines for small and marginal farmers, supporting agriculture, wildlife, livestock and groundwater recharge in the surrounding villages.

The project is part of NAF’s Watershed Division. Water security is the foundation of rural livelihoods. Our watershed programmes restore waterbodies, build check dams, and strengthen soil and water conservation across more than a hundred villages.
